UoN Law Students to represent UoN and Kenya in International Competition
UoN Faculty of Law Shines at Jessup Moot Court National Rounds
The University of Nairobi's Faculty of Law has once again demonstrated its commitment to excellence by achieving remarkable success at the recently concluded Philip C. Jessup Moot Court Competition National Rounds in Kenya. The event took place on February 13th and 14th, 2025, at Strathmore University, bringing together top law schools from across the nation to engage in rigorous legal debates.
Representing the University of Nairobi with distinction were Ayaga Max Liambilah and June Anindo. Their exceptional advocacy skills propelled them through the preliminary stages, culminating in a strong performance in the finals, where they secured the runner-up position. This accomplishment has earned them the honor of representing both the university and Kenya at the Global International Rounds in Washington, D.C., scheduled for March 28th, 2025.
In addition to the team's overall success, Ms. June Anindo received individual recognition as the Runners-Up Best Oralist, highlighting her outstanding oratory prowess. The team's impressive performance also opened doors to prestigious internship opportunities at Mohammed Muigai LLP, providing them with invaluable practical experience in the legal field.
The Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition is renowned as the world's largest moot court competition, with participation from approximately 700 law schools across 100 countries. The competition simulates a fictional dispute between nations before the International Court of Justice, challenging participants to engage with complex issues of public international law. This year's case encompassed topics such as maritime rights under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), state sovereignty, jurisdictional immunities, and the recognition of governments.
This victory not only showcases the students' dedication and hard work but also reflects the University of Nairobi Faculty of Law's unwavering commitment to fostering academic excellence and practical skills among its students. The faculty's consistent performance in national and international competitions, coupled with its robust academic programs, continues to solidify its reputation as a leading institution for legal education in Kenya and beyond.
